Thread reported, expect it to be moved to the area for Fusion, since this has nothing to do with a vSphere security advisory.

To avoid explaining all possible options, please describe your current environment (Hardware, MacOS version, Fusion version), and on which platform you plan to run Fusion (in case you plan to get new hardware).

Hi,

VMware Fusion 12.0 was released in September 2020.
Normally we get a new version every year.

Except last year... VMware did not bump the version number, but instead went from Fusion 12.1 to Fusion 12.2.

VMware Fusion 12.1.2 is the last version you can run on macOS Catalina.

For VMware Fusion 12.2.0 and up you need at least macOS Big Sur.

My iMac had a major crash,  I had to start from scratch,  I am now on Catalina 10.15.7  ( don't like it much) but every time I upgrade something else doesn't work, frankly I am getting fedup with this stuff.  I was running VMware 8.  When I installed it again to run WinXP Pro,  I have a black screen.  When I suspend VMware, I can see what's on the screen,  I have managed to get to a certain point in the windows install by suspending VMware,  reading the what's next and then opening VMware and hitting "return" to go to the next step.  This stopped because I couldn't enter the activation code.   Pleeeease,  if you have any help I would appreciate it. thank you

Thank you, this helps a lot, especially since I have 2 computers,  the iMac and a Mac Pro.  Now one of my confusions re the iMac was;  when reading about VMware 12, it will work on the iMac but not for WinXP.  Now does that mean I can't run WinXP on my iMac using VMware 12?

Windows XP is listed as a compatible guest operating system with Fusion 12.x in VMware’s online guest operating system compatibility guide https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=software&details=1&operatin...

Hi,

On top of all what has been said.. also note that there is a free VMware Fusion Player nowadays that has the same functionality as the old -non professional- version of VMware Fusion. It is available for personal use only.

See here: https://www.vmware.com/go/getfusionplayer

and a few more relevant links: https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Fusion-Discussions/VMware-Fusion-Player-Personal-Use-Licens...

and: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/evalcenter?p=fusion-player-personal

edit: Oh and the free license is for Fusion 12 only, not for Fusion 11 or earlier. So on Catalina that means using it with Fusion 12.1.2, not any later versions of VMware Fusion.

Thank you again, this sure is tougher than before.  I tried the  VMware 11, installed a graphics program and when I shut down VMware, the graphics program disappeared,  guess I will try version 12,  after 5 hours of this I need a break.
