I had been having problems with sporadic color dots appearing in my display in guest (XP) and carrying over into OS X. This especially happened in full screen mode.
Changing back to the default RAM allocation (512 for guest and 1536 for OS X) seems to have completely solved the problem
I had previously allocated 1024K to each OS.
