Cannot open the disk '/Users/danmorton/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows 8.1 x64.vmwarevm

I suspended the machine, then when i went to open i got the message

Cannot open the disk '/Users/danmorton/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows 8.1 x64.vmwarevm/Virtual Disk-000004.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

I completely restored my mac from time machine backup going back to the day before this happened. Still have problem.

From a quick look at the VM's files it looks like "Virtual Disk-000004-s011.vmdk" got lost!?

Unless you can restore it from your backup, you may replace this file with a copy of an "empty" .vmdk file (e.g. "Virtual Disk-000004-s014.vmdk", which according to its size, seems to only hold metadata). This will fix the "Cannot open ..." issue, will of course result in some data loss and/or corruption. So what you should do, is to create another snapshot - to which you can revert if required - after replacing the missing file, and before powering on the VM.
