Can you install Fusion on an external HD

I am wondering if it is possible to install or drag and drop Fusion on an external HD?

Thanks

No.

It must reside in /Applications.

You may not use  an Alias to another folder.

You may not use  a Symbolic Link (symlink) to another folder.

The VMware folks need to check their gastrodomes on this one.

Thanks for the reply and that's too bad as it takes up 42.5g on my drive and I don't use it that much.

Maybe the XP software could reside there. Is that possible. I just want my disk space back so to speak.

To repeat my eMail reply that did not make it

The virtual machines may go in any folder on any drive. It is just the .app that is restricted.

That sounds like the size of Virtual Machine not the VMware Fusion install.  Your virtual machines can reside on any drive, in fact I prefer external drives for mine.

If you start Fusion and bring up the Virtual Machine Library Window you can find where your Virtual Machine is stored.  Just right click on a machine and select the show in finder command.

Once you find the VM_name.vmwarevm bundle copy the whole thing to your external drive.  Once you have started it on the external drive and confirmed everything is working fine it is OK to delete it from the internal drive.
