Can't upgrade VMWare fusion 6 to 7 on Yosemite. Install application reports "File Not found"

After buying, downloading and installation in Finder the VMWare Fusion update from 6 to 7 Yosemite reports the error: File Not found". Then the installer freezes.

Does anybody have a solution to proceed the installation step?

Thanks in advance,

Harold

OK, I had the same problem, I had VMware fusion 5. I updated my OS to Yosemite last night and this morning VMWare Fusion puked all over the place and couldn't open. So I went and downloaded Fusion 7 Pro thinking that I will just install that from scratch and everything would work! Wrong...

It kinda sucks but what finally worked for me tonight (in this order) is that I

1. formatted my hard drive and

2.restored a fresh copy of Mac OS (Mountain Lion)

3. I THEN downloaded and installed VMWare Fusion 7 pro.

4. After I installed VMWare 7 Pro THEN

5. I updated to Yosemite.  IT worked!

So basically you have to be running or have installed VMware Fusion 7 BEFORE you upgrade to Yosemite and the all the links will port over (or whatever caused it to break in the first place.)
