Can't get bridged networking going on Fusion

First, the stats:

• OS X 10.5.4

• Fusion 1.1.3

• Client: Ubuntu 8.04, downloaded from http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/1224

NAT works fine on my network. When I turn on bridged networking, I set my static IP, gateway, subnet mask, etc. exactly like my host machine (except for the static IP, of course). After doing this (and restarting), I can't get to the Internet or even ping the gateway server. I have the exact same experience on a couple Windows XP VMs (one with SP3).

Any ideas?

Is this wireless or wired?

Are you tech-savvy enough to get a packet traces (use vmnet-sniffer)?
