Can I use a FreeBSD VM from Fusion on VMWare Server?

Greetings,

I just converted my FreeBSD web and mail server to a Fusion VM. It smokes on my new iMac BTW! However, I may have a need to run it on VMWare Server. Can anyone tell how feasible this is? The Hosted OS is FreeBSD-6.2-STABLE. Thank you.

Depends on which version of Server. Server 2 uses the same virtual hardware version as Fusion, so you can just copy it over and (barring any host-specific paths) it should work. Server 1 uses the previous virtual hardware version, but Fusion doesn't have a way to downgrade this. Workstation 6 does, however, and you could use a demp version to convert the virtual machine.

Thank you for the information. However, since VM Server 2.0 is in beta... how stable is it?

Dunno, never used it. I'm biased of course, but with no information other than that it's our product, I would trust it Smiley Happy

Edit: oreeh is of course correct - I meant I would trust it for testing purposes, but I think you're crazy if you use any beta product for production.

I wouldn't use the beta for production.
