CD Drive doesn't work in Windows XP Client

I have an Apple iMAC with Snow Leopard and a VMWare Fusion client of Windows XP. I don't know that this ever worked, but I'm in need of making the CD/DVD drive and Windows is having trouble loading it. In the Device Manager, Windows has a yellow exclamation point on the device driver. and the following error message appears when I try to select:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing multiple times and multiple ways. Nothing.

From the VMWare side, I have enabled the CD/DVD drive via the little button at the bottom of the screen.

If you have any knowledge of this problem or can point me in the right direction, I will be very grateful.

This really is not a Fusion issue per se and you should troubleshoot it just as if Windows was running natively on a physical machime.

Have a look at: Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
