Bootcamp needs too much free space suddenly

Hi,

Up until yesterday my VM ran fine. Then suddenly I tried to start it and it says it needs more disk space. There was about 5GB free, so I went in and cleared out about 15gb of stuff. Why in the world does it want 7.7gb more when I have 22gb free? It ran previously with very little free space.

I can get it to boot by reducing the ram from 12GB to 2GB, so I guess it's a page file problem, but 22gb should be enough, why does it want 30gb? And what changed from last week when my disc was running on full?

Hopefully someone has an idea. Thanks!

Mac High Sierra 10.13.6

VMware fusion 10.1.3

Windows 10 Pro (not sure version or build number)

Hi,

The error you are seeing is not about the free disk space in the VM, but the free disk space at your host (in other words, at macOS level)

If you have 12 GB RAM assigned to the VM then it makes a 12 GB RAM backing file at host level - the .vmem file.

This is independent of the page file logic in the guest.
