When I reboot my Mac Pro 2019, the Boot Camp drive device is renumbered, sometimes. I'm not sure why this happens, but it does from time to time.
Since I'm launching Windows 10 from my Boot Camp partition in VMWare Fusion, this causes the disk device information in the "Boot Camp.vmdk" file to not agree with the new reality and when starting up the VM, VMWare says: 'Unable to open file "/Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp/Boot Camp.vmwarevm/Boot Camp.vmdk": The system cannot find the file specified'.
I've found that this can be fixed by editing the "Boot Camp.vmdk" file (see my reply here), but I'm wondering if this should be considered a bug. Should the nice folks @VMware add code in the VM startup routines that detects this condition and repair it, so I don't have to?
