Best product to share ubuntu virtual server

This is probably a easy question to answer but I am somewhat bemused by the number of products available.

I want to be able to give my ubuntu virtual machine, setup using Fusion on a Mac, to someone using a PC for them to modify and give back to me. What product do they need?

I assume your "someone" is running Windows or Linux (if they were using a Mac, it's easy - Fusion)? Are they going to be using virtualization for more than this one-off thing? And of course, the most important question: What do they need to modify?

They are running Linux on one Machine and WIndows on another and could use either for this project.

They may be adding new libraries as the project develops and it would just be easier to exchange the whole virtual machine as this machine is only used for the one project.

I'd suggest starting with Player 2. It's free, and if all they're doing is using the VM (e.g. not reconfiguring it), it should be fine. Workstation 6 has a free 30-day trial, but many projects may last longer. Of course, you could always buy Workstation, but you can also do that if Player doesn't work out for you. Finally there's Server, which is also free, but I don't think it will be more useful than Player for your case, and you would have to use the Server 2 beta because Server 1 uses an older format.

Thanks for that very helpful answer. Will checkout each of those.
