Apple Updates - best to apply to master VM? Or ok to apply to Linked Clone?

Title says it all. Master 10.10.3 VM. Linked Clone  used for day to day stuff.

Today an update to iTunes comes out. Do I apply the update to the Master VM? That would make the most sense to me.

Or should we not alter the Master, and instead apply the iTunes update to the Linked Clone?
