All input just results in a beep, vm appears frozen. After a few minutes window flashes black for a moment and returns to normal.
Seems the vm is not frozen, as audio continues if already playing and notification sounds happen while input is frozen. Searches show this happening previously but troubleshooting methods from before return no results.
