VCP4 --> VCP 6?

I'm a little unclear on the recertification process.  I have (had) a VCP4, but was lazy to be quite honest, and never got my VCP5.  I do have an authorization code for VCP-510, but I believe that test has been retired.  So the question is, since I earned VCP4, can I take the VCP6 exam, or does it require that I take classes/training?  If it does not require classes/training, how do I go about obtaining an authorization code to schedule a VCP6 exam?

Has your VCP4 expired?

It depends if your VCP4 has expired or not - which is determined by when you took it. If it has expired, then you will basically be starting over with your VCP certification, look at Path 3 under "Existing Candidate Requirements" here

So it looks like my VCP4 expired in May.  However, I was able to obtain a VCP550 exam authorization.  In this case, would you say I just need to take (and pass) the VCP550, and then turn around and take the VCP6 exam?

OR

Since my VCP 4 is expired, am I not eligible for the VCP550 exam, even though I have the authorization code?

Don't want to blow $225 for no reason.

As per here, under Have an expired VCP of any solution: VCP6-DCV Certification

You will need to sit the class, then do the Foundation exam and then the streamed (DCV, in this example) exam.

The list of valid classes (at this time) are:

vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V6]

vSphere: Optimize & Scale [V6]

VMware vSphere: Bootcamp [V6]

VMware vSphere: Fast Track [V6]

VMware vSphere: Design and Deploy Fast Track [V6]

VMware vSphere: Troubleshooting [V6]

vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V6] On Demand

VMware vSphere: Install, Configure and Manage plus Optimize and Scale Fast Track [V6.0]

So potentially you could take a class that could benefit your real world work and count as the class requirement for the certification.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it.  I don't really need the classes, or the cert for that matter, I just figured I'd update it if it were a simple proposition.  I appreciate the feedback guys.

Nope. If it's expired you have to take a class.

The authorization code just means we've told PearsonVue you're a real person in our system - it doesn't indicate anything about your eligibility for the exam or certification.
