I am trying to get management to approve the Fast Track class for me as a refresher before I attempt the VCP but it is proving difficult to convince them the class is worth $5500. Does anyone know of a way to get a discount on that price as it seems awfully high.
Thanks!
If your sole objective is to refresh for the VCP, Fast Track may be overkill. Fast Track covers a lot of ground that is not included on the VCP examination. VI3: Install & Configure would be cheaper than Fast Track, and its contents are very similar to the VCP exam blueprint.
I appreciate the response. I have taken the Install and Configure class already. Every time I take the VCP test exam(20 questions) I fail miserably so I am missing something. I have been out of the loop with Vmware for half a year now due to all of the crazy projects I have been doing at work that have had nothing to do with our Vmware environment.
I would like to know about this, too, if anyone else has information, I work for a non-profit.
Thank you, Tom
Sounds like all you're missing is the hands-on experience. I've been working with ESX for a little over 2 years, and administering it for the past 12 months. I took the fast track in August of 08 and wouldn't recommend it for the price - all we really covered that I hadn't discovered on my own was some of the advanced command line tools. I don't know about discounted training courses, I guess it would depend on your reseller.
I'd recommend dusting off your old books from the Install & Config class, grabbing a 60 day eval of VI3, and have some fun with it. Aside from the hand-on work, know the config maximiums guide () - that's good info you won't come across playing with a test lab.
Good luck on your exam!
