Patch process for VCF components between BOM releases

I'm wondering about how patches to the subcomponents of VCF are handled today.

For example, if we are running VCF/SDDC manager 3.8, the BOM includes ESXi 6.7 build 13981272.

Hypothetically, if there was an express patch released in between this BOM and the next BOM is the patch updated in the current BOM?

If not, where is the patch information located if I'm on 3.8 + some patching?

Or would the customer be expected to wait for a new BOM that included the patch?

Is the process the same for all subcomponents (vRA, vROps etc)?

BOM stays as it is for current version.

The newest version of VCF is version 3.9.1. If new EP for ESXi is coming out then new VCF patch release will be announced as well, i.e VCF 3.9.1.1

As an example -take a look at VCF 3.0.1.1

Hi,

You can find such information  in release notes for every new VCF version, i.e. VCF 3.7.2: Support for vSphere Express Patch 09: VMware ESXi 6.7 ESXi670-201905001, vCenter Server Appliance 6.7 Update 2a, and vSAN 6.7 Express Patch 09 were added to the BOM.

New patches are included in next VCF version.

Maybe a different example.  VCF 3.9.1 released this week with point products in the BOM.  Let’s say next week ESXi, vCenter, and vRA all release patches.  In that case does the 3.9.1 BOM get updated to reflect those patches? Or does VCF only consider the 3.9.1 BOM as new install as initially released?

You can't upgrage single component. All you have to do is to wait for new bundles and upgrade/patch entire software stack.

Right, that’s understood.  The question is what happens to the posted BOM.

Interesting!  Does the same hold true for security patches as well?
