NSX design for VCF

Hello Everyone,

I'm working on NSX-T design for fully Collapsed Cluster in VCF.

For a four pNICs hosts the design in the NSX design guide is:
- all the vNICs of the Edge are plug on the Management VDS as seen on the diagram below.

What is the impact if the Edge vNICs are plug on NSX VDS?

In case we keep the design as shown in NSX Design guide do we need to have different vlan for TEP Edge and TEP host?
Thanks
BR

The only way to achieve that design would be to deploy the edge cluster manually through NSX and not SDDC manager but you will loose out on some day 2 SDDC operations like password rotation, expansion, etc. Also depending on the Use case for the edge cluster there may be a requirement to deploy from SDDC manager, for example in the Management domain if AVNs are required there is a dependency to deploy the edge cluster from SDDC manager.

So careful consideration is needed before making that decision.

If you deploy the edge cluster using SDDC manager it will always have the Edge and Host TEP use the same vDS.

In VCF if there is a dedicated vDS for NSX the edge TEP and N/S traffic will be placed on this vDS if the edge cluster is deployed by SDDC Manager.

In that case the Edge TEP and host TEP VLANs must be different as VCF will use vDS distributed port groups for the edge VM connectivity.

Thanks for your feedback.

In the case where we have Management/Edge/Compute on the same cluster and have a 2 vds (Management and NSX) . Can we still connect the Edge TEP on the management vds and the Host TEP on the nsx Edge?

On do we need to connect both the Edge and host TEPs on the nsx vds?
