Can I Install VMware Cloud Foundation on existing ESXI 6.5 ?

Hello everyone,

Simply, I have one site under ESXI 6.5 with few virtual machines hosted on two clusters.

I want to duplicate this infrastructure to a new site just like a disaster recovery with VMware technologies and take this opportunity to use VMware Cloud Foundation as private cloud.

So, what's the best option and possible ?

- Install VMware Cloud Foundation on my existing ESXI then integrate the new site ?

- Migrate to VMware Cloud Foundation and lost the legacy site ?

I thank you in advance for the support.

VMware Cloud Foundation is greenfield only and can not be installed ontop of a pre-existing vSphere deployment.

Yes indeed,

I had the confirmation in the documenation as well :

"Migration from Existing vSphere to VCF
VMware Cloud Foundation is a greenfield installation only, meaning that Cloud Foundation creates a new vSphere
infrastructure and Single Sign-On domain. Existing workloads running on older vSphere versions cannot be
managed from Cloud Foundation"

I thank you for your response.

It seems that I have to migrate and lost the source site otherwise I stop with VMware Cloud Foundation

not sure about DR site using vcf and how workloads can be migrated to newer site that require a well design approach.

Hello,

Not sure about VCF, but you can use VMware Replication as a possible option.

Best Regards.
