deploying virtual from template!

times out about 50% of the time,  This a brand new vsphere deploy but its a clone of the other deploys.  I've gone over the docs on slow deployment of templates but the thing is it either finishes the deployment of the virtual very quickly or it times out.  Any ideas?

thought that I'd narrowed it down to a single datastore but no the problem doesn't seem to care what datastore I'm using.

1. Are the Datastore types different (SAN, iSCSI, NAS etc) each time you tried deploying from template? (To isolate problem to particular type)

2. Are there additional active VM files placed in the Datastore?  (To check if other VMs I/O activities are peaking, causing the deployment to timeout)

3. Also check the vCenter server performance when it timed out

4. The time when it completed quickly, eg. Off business hours or any specific pattern found?

          FC SAN for all datastores, have netapp on site doing a  health check nothing found so far!

2. Are there additional active VM files placed in the Datastore?  (To check if other VMs I/O activities are peaking, causing the deployment to timeout)

          This is a brand new cluster only 1 vm and a couple templates on it.

3. Also check the vCenter server performance when it timed out

          Nothing unusual (nice huh)

4. The time when it completed quickly, eg. Off business hours or any specific pattern found?

          Very random I can start a deploy from template 2 times in a row and sometimes the second one completes before the 1st finally timesout.

beyond netapps vsc this cluster is as plain jane as you can get it.

unless you can think of something I think we'll be opening up a support case.
