Default or All attributes for adapters?

My vmware adapters are set to default, yet my other adapters - like smarts, hyperic, oem and msft all use the ALL attrib value. Should I change those adapters to use default?

If you are running 5.7 or higher, changing the attrib value is the same as changing the metric collection profile in the admin UI.

For 5.7 the "default" value collects all metrics from vCenter.  The "All" value collects a subset and is the "Balanced Profile" (roughly 50% of the metrics are collected).

I have some more details in this blog post...  I do not know if changing the setting in the custom UI will reflect in the Admin UI, I may have to test that out.  For now, I'd just use the Admin UI for that.

John, I have two 5.7 and one 5.7.1 and they all show the vmware adapters are set to Default attrib and admin UI shows all in balanced mode... and I do see the drop in metrics after applying the newer mode. So I know its set and working.

OK, then is your question about changing the other adapters?  I wouldn't unless you want to manipulate the metrics collection, DT/HT settings, etc.

Just confused.... since my vmware adapters show default instead of All after setting the balanced mode. Seems misleading that the adapter doesnt show ALL after balanced mode. Is that expected or is mine "unique"?

That's expected.  I wouldn't get too hung up on the attribute package name.  Just know that "default" is balanced (i.e. 50% metrics collection) and "all" is full for VMware adapter.

Think of it this way, in 5.7.1 the balanced profile is now the default for a new install.

John, I just double-checked on the change from one value to another .... and my KPIs do NOT move to the new attrib value. Is that known and expected or not known? Is there a way to automate that or will I have to manual go reset my values?
