Datastore count and space alterations

Hi.

When looking at the general reports, views or dashboards around storage, VROPS always includes the HYP local storage as part of the counts. We do not use any HYP local storage for VM placements and only rely on vSan or Fiber Attached SAN. All of our HYP local storage/datastores are named in a standard such as  #####-hyp1-local so I am hoping there is a way to exclude any storage object with "local" in it from these views to purely report the Datastores actually used for VM's.

Has anybody here done this perhaps and have some pointers?

Thank you

Eugene

Create a custom group containing only the datastores you would like to have. Next, create a view based on the particular custom group and use the view in your report. Or use Output Filter Section in the view/widget if it is available.

Thanks for the reply and feedback Rick. That is a very good suggestion.

That would mean that I would have to constantly update the group as I add new datastores/luns which we do quite frequently (we have over 240 at the moment). If that is the only way then that's fine but I was more hoping to find an option to simply include all datastores and exclude anything with that contains "-local". Although, the Fiber ones we add typically contain similar fields in the name such as VNX, FC etc. A dynamic group with those values as qualifiers may just work.

I am going to give that a go for sure.

Thanks again,

Eugene

If there is some sort of logic you could build dynamic custom groups.

Here is some reading material:

Select "keep group membership up to date" checkbox when creating a custom group, to prevent updating the group manually.
