Changing eval vCenter Operations Management Suite License

I am trying out the product eval, which is great BTW, but I want to know if there is away to change the license for the eval to something other than "Enterprise".  I am assuming the eval is the fully licensed version but realistically we will be purchasing something less.  Is there a way to change the eval to reflect "Foundation", "Standard" or "Advanced"?  I would like to see the product with the limited functionality because it is difficult to determine what options are in which version.  Thanks.

Hello dla123,

Just to make sure we are all on the same page, please be aware that the product edition names are changing in the 5.6 release...  when 5.6 releases I will try and remember to update this message/thread with the mapping between those product editions.

I write this because you mention Foundation, which is NOT available for 5.0.  Foundation provides access to the vC Ops performance analytics only, no capacity planning.  As far as I know, no license will be required but you will need to be running vSphere 5.1.  Just install the vApp, register with vCenter and you will be good to go.

Standard/Advanced/Enterprise suites include all capabilities of the vC Ops vSphere UI - there is no difference there.  The major difference for vC Ops Advanced/Enterprise is that you will have access to the Custom UI which provides the ability to build dashboards that incorporate third-party adapaters as well as some VMware product adapters (like Hyperic and vCD).  Standard does not provide that capability.

So, the short answer.... to see the differences in product functionality you will need to wait until 5.6 is GA so you can look at Foundation (no license required).  Otherwise, all 5.6 versions have the same capability in the vSphere UI.

Hi,

Few ways here :

1. Get your local VMware office Systems Engineer to get you the vcops eval lic's. They DO have it,

2. DM me and I can help you out.

I would prefere you try option 1 first please.

jddias,

Thanks for the detailed response.  I will be setting up a meeting with our reps to figure out the best match for us and work on pricing.  Do we know when 5.6 will release?  This year or next?
