Hello folks,
I've been using an old version ov vSphere vCenter. I've now upgraded it an want to add my new evaluate license key, since the old one is out of date. When I try to do this by going to Home->Amdinistration->Licensing-><my host>->Change License key the following error occurs:
Invalid license key: license file not found.
Any idea what I'm supposed to do?
Information:
vSphere Client version: 5.1.0
vSphere vCenter Server 5.1.0
ESXi 5.1
Thanks in advance.
Hello
Welcome to VMware communities.
Can you please post the screenshot.
Looks like you are trying to apply the license as a vCenter licenese, you need to do this instead:\
Click the "Asset" radio button in the licensing window.
Find vCenter Operations Manager and change llicense key.
Example below....
I only got my server listed under "Asset", nothing else. :smileyconfused:
Have you registered vCenter with vC Ops from the Admin UI?
No, and no idea how. Sorry for my low knowledge and experience, could you tell me how? Is it complicated?
Feels weird to make so many steps to just activate a new evaluate license key?
Thanks in advance,

Well, it's not just the license key, you have to register vCenter with vC Ops so that vC Ops can monitor it.
Go to the IP address of the UI VM /admin, for example https:<IP of UI VM>/admin
Login with admin (default password is admin) - if this is a fresh install of vC Ops you will be presented with a startup wizard. Otherwise, just click "New Registration" right there on the "Registration" tab.
It seems like /admin doesn't exist, I only get a white page. Suggestion?
(But thank you for being so helpful, I really appreciate it!)
Is this a fresh install?
If it is a fresh install probably the easiest thing will be to reinstall the vApp.
http://<vcops_ip>/admin should be working at all times.

With vApp you mean..? I'm really not up to date with all those new divisons of software for VMware.
Are you trying to license vCenter Server (VC) or vCenter Operations Manager (VCOps) ?
Those are two separate products.
This is the community forum for vCenter Operations Manager (VCOps), but I am starting to think that you have problems with registering vCenter Server.

Starting to get the same feeling! I've downloaded the file VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.1.0-947939, and installed "VMware vCenter Server" from the image.
I've installed the vCenter because I want to make a template out of my virtual machine at my ESXi 5.1 host. Since you can't make a template with just the vSphere client..
VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.1.0-947939 is the installable package for vSphere 5.1 (including VC), and not vCenter Operations Manager
Thank you for clearing that out! I guess I posted this thread wrong then.. Could anyone move it? :smileyblush:
So my problem is that I can't add a new evaluate license when I've upgraded vCenter from 5.0 to 5.1, just to clarify.
