Retention policy for different types of data?

Problem:

We want to keep online data for seven years for one application.

We don't want to commit to the storage required for seven years of data for all applications.

How do we keep this one application's data available, searchable and online for 7 years and discard other data?

Today: you have the choice of deploying a Log Insight cluster per retention period desired and routing sources accordingly, or using offline archiving to meet the 7-year requirement.

Just to add to this -- it is not recommended to keep 7 years online (no matter which logging tool you use) because someone is going to run an all time query and it is going to cause performance issues. LI provides data archiving which should be used for greater than say 90 days of retention so online you have quick results for more real-time analysis. If you absolutely need to have 7 years online then you can leverage event forwarding to forward that subset of logs to a dedicate LI instance/cluster.

Hope this helps! === If you find this information useful, please award points for "correct" or "helpful". ===
