vCO Long Workflow Launch Time

Hi. We have a workflow that take approx 1 minute just to launch, before entering data into the presentation form, in the vCO client. From the web operator, it launches instantly. It's almost impossible to develop at this pace...

What's causing it?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi!

Do you have some special input presentation for the workflow inputs?

Does it happen with every workflow, or just with certain ones?

And: Where is the client running? Does it also happen if you start the client on the vCO Server (if not using the appliance, of course 😉 )?

(Remember: The weboperator always runs on the same server, so network issues can be ruled out then).

Cheers,

Joerg

This is the way the presentation is calculated that is different between the client and the web view.

In the web view the presentation is calculated by steps whereas in the client is is all done at once.

You have 2 ways to reduce the display of the presentation for testing the workflow you develop:

  • Use the web operator to test the workflow.
  • Simplify and optimize the presentation, i.e make sure any action used in the presentation is really fast and has a minimum dependencies on other fields.

Christophe.

Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately, the webop and vCO client aren't one:one in terms of presentation. (See my soon to be posted question regarding this.)

The workflow is complex. Simplification isn't option b/c by doing this, I make execution of the WF more difficult. We want the interface to be smart by offering the executors predefined lists, generate by javascript. I can only optimize so far with the tools that I have been given. I would say the problem is less on my end if your saying that vCO wasn't built with large complex workflows in mind.

You are right there are differences in the way the presentation is rendered in the client and in the web operator (or any other webview). This is why when I work on presentations I develop with the client and test with web operator. Is the workflow aimed at being used from the vCO client ?

If we knew about what you are trying to achieve we may be able to help do it differently.
