Reconnect a disconnected vCenter host to the VC plugin

We fairly frequently run into an issue with a vCenter no longer communicating with the VC plugin.  What I would like to be able to do is force the plugin to attempt a reconnect to the vCenter when it is in such a state.  Sometimes the VC plugin will show up as "unusable" in the inventory and at other times it looks fine but if you try to traverse the inventory you'll end up with it failing.  The only way I have been able to get the connection happy again is to restart the vCO server service.  What I would like to be able to do is check for a value coming back as null or undefined or null when I expect it to be valid, if that happens tell it to reconnect, if it still fails then kill the process.  I can easily do the test but I am not sure how to force a refresh of the connection.  Would VcPlugin.refreshObjects() result in a reconnect happening?

Have you looked into the technical preview plug-in in the docs tab? One of the bullet items in its description sounds like it automatically addresses what you are describing. Technical Preview Version of VMware vCenter Orchestrator Plug-In for VMware vSphere 5.5.1
