Image or ImageRef not a template

vRA 7 You could clone from machines, they did not have to be templates.  Is that possible in vRA 8?  I have not found a way to do it, so I figured I'd ask here.  I tried changing ImageRef value after the request but that still won't work.

we can either clone from template or ova 
if you want to see how imageref work , below is the example , where my vCenter has access to this repo and it will download the ova on the fly .

Are you talking about clonefrom Snapshot option ?

Ok that answers my question.  We had a special build that allowed users to clone active vm's, NOT a template or ova.  It seems that functionality is not available as you stated.
