Can someone explain to me why a storage device needs 2 different networks? why can't the ports be all in the same range? Thank you.
From your question I assume that you are likely using an EMC storage system (e.g. a VNX).
It depends on the storage vendor, and how he has implemented storage access.

Its IBM, storwize. why the need for 2 networks on each controller, but I have seen this in other vendors, like Dell Compellent.
