renaming an ESXi host

i would like to change the hostname of my ESX Server 3i, 3.5.0 server.

I plan on using the VIC method described in the article below.

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=4309499&sl...

At the very bottom of that article, there is a link that that walks you through regenerating an SSL certificate for the management interface. Does anyone know if this applies to the free ESXi version? I'm a bit confused because the very first set of instructions says to login to the service console... I thought there is no service console in the free version of ESXi? If I do not regenerate the SSL certificate, will I still be able to manage this server through the VIC client?

I would imagine you would get a SSL error on login, but you should be able to simply click "ignore" and continue to work,

i didnt read the article - but to gain console access to ESXi, (ALT + F1) then type "unsupported" on the console screen to gain access.....

ESXi can be reconfigured through console. It has very intuitive and simple interface.

Just wanted to circle back and say that the VIC client method worked.

- Powered off VM's

- Edit hostname from Configuratin > DNS Routing

- Restart

Did not get any SSL certificate errors when logging back in. Thanks for the input guys.
