master vm for ESXi

I'm experimenting with ESXi and wonder if there is a way to make a master copy of a VM and use it to replicate VMs. I have a base install of linux in a VM and i'd like to copy that base image to multiple VMs. Is it is easy as copying the VM files to another folder and renaming them?

Thanks,

Aaron

yes that is called a template, but you need Virtual Center Server to make that work. Otherwise there is a function called cloning which will do the same thing. either way you do have the ability to make 1 master image and clone to other VM's.

We don't have virtual center yet. I will be investigating that later. Can cloning be done with out virutal center? Where can I get more information about that?

Thanks.

you can use vmware converter to create a new VM from a "template" one
