installing vmware tools on ubuntu 10.04 lts guest

I have installed an ubuntu 10.04 server linux guest on my esxi 3.5 but I'm unable to install the vmware tools. I get unable to build vmxnet, vmblock, etc. I also tried building open-vm-tools on that guest and using the modules from that to install the vmware tools but I still get the same problem. Has anybody successfully installed vmware tools on ubuntu 10.04? What is the proper way of installing the tools? Thanks!

Did you install gcc to compile necessary drivers? You can find some help in this thread:

Another one (for vSphere, but why not...):

But as 10.04 is not supported on 3.5 ...

Vmware tools is also available using whatever package manager you use.

 apt-get install open-vm-tools
