i have a small test setup with esxi:
dell 1750 dual processor with 4mb ram, some local storage running esxi 3.5 update 3.
i'm having network performance issues connecting to a suse linux 10.2 physical server serving data via NFS or iSCSI.
the esxi server is connected to a small gigabit switch via a single
intel gigabit network card. the SUSE linux server is connected to the
same switch via broadcomm cards.
when i transfer files between datastores (or boot a virtual machine hosted off these remote file systems):
with NFS, i get about 1MB/s throughput (ouch)!
with iSCSI, i get about 10MB/s throughput.
if i mount an iscsi volume to my physical windows box connected to the same switch via a gigabit card, i get about 40-50MB/s throughput to the SLES server.
i tried bonding 2 network cards on the ESX server to the same switch, but that didn't seem to help. i also tried connecting the SUSE linux server directly to the ESXi server via a crossover cable, and that didn't seem to help.
any suggestions?
thanks
anthony.
