esxi installation trouble on DELL poweredge 2950 with Intel Xeon E5410 CPUs

Hello,

I am trying to install vmware ESXi on a DELL POWEREDGE 2950 with Quad-core Intel Xeon E5410 processors.

I see the ThinESX Installer screen. As soon as it starts to boot, it prints the following:

Kernel: vmkernel.gz

Loading vmkernel.gz

PANIC: Cannot open vmkernel.gz

boot:

Then it goes back to the ThinESX Installer screen and panics again. This loop keeps going on forever.

I checked the HCL and DID NOT find Intel Xeon E5410 in it.

The same install image worked fine on another DELL system (which is present in the HCL).

So the image is not corrupt.

Is there any workaround for this ?

Thanks,

Pramodh

If it isn't in the HCL then it isn't a supported platform and therefore there isn't much you can do especially at the CPU level
