esxi fails to boot after install

Reposted as a discussion instead of a document.

I have an IBM Intellistation M-Pro 6850-50u, it has an Adaptec 7895

scsi adapter on the system board, 17gb scsi HD, dual 2.2 ghz xeon

procs, and 1.5 gb of rambus memory. Esxi finds the drive and installs

fine. After the system reboots it hangs, no error messages but it looks

like no bootloader is found. I can alt f1 after the install disk boots

and see the partitions are built and data is on the partitions. I can

install other linux OS' without issue. Any suggestions?

Not sure if this is the same as your situation or not, but we had the same issue with HP servers. Do you have any HBA cards instaled or on-board on that server? We had to either physically remove the fiber cable at the card, or have their fiber switch ports turned off - then the new install would boot. Re-connect the fiber after boot and all is well.

From our HP rep's explanation it has something to do with the GRUB bootloader.

Hope it helps, if not, I tried.
