Ok setting up a usb install and it loads esxi but when running config script it halts after:
Module load of migration succeeded.
config explicitly loaded
Waiting for USB boot partition to show up... retrying after 1 additional seconds
Waiting for USB boot partition to show up... retrying after 32 additional seconds
PANIC: Failed to find USB boot partition
This is on a hp d530 cmt.
not exactly sure what is going on as it loads esxi but then fails through the configuration of it.
Not finding much at all regarding this in searches online either.
ESXi has some fairly strict hardware requirements. Desktop systems and the embedded components don't usually meet those requirements. On board network cards are often the main issue but disk controllers can also be problematic. Check the http://vm-help.com whitebox HCL to see if anyone has sucessfully installed to your hardware and any steps that may have been needed to work around the issues. You can also check the VMware HCL http://vmware.com/go/hcl
I just had a quick look at this PC. It is rather old in PC terms and you may be better off finding some other platform to run ESXi.
actually the d530 works great the problem ended up being the usb flash drive. No idea how I can write to it and everything but then fails. Most have some bad spots on the drive. Bought a new drive and converted my old titanium 8G into a bootable esx usb drive and works great.
