esx server not shutting down

Hi I am in midddle of upgrading the SAN.

I have shut down all the VMs on all my esx servers.

Finally when i am shutting down the ESX server before the SAN Upgrade, ESX is not shutting down.

its pinging continously...In the mean while i got an update that vpxd service on Vcenter is stopped and its not getting started.

Its showing as: virtual center service terninated with service error 2(0X2)

Please suggest..

Can you take a look at the console (direct or via ssh) to check whether there are errors displayed?

Reading this and your other post it seems, there is still a VM running on the host. Can you connect to the host with the infrastructure client directly to see what's going on?

Do you have virtual center and the SQL server virtualized? On separate VM's?

Do the follwoing

login to the ESX server using SSH (Putty)

service vmware-vpxa restart

service mgmt-vmware restart

Check the VMkernel logs at /var/log/vmkernel.

How should I restore connectivity to virtual center.

Connect to the ESX host hosting the Virtual Center server directly with the infrastructure client. Once connected you can open the console of the Virtual Center Server to see what's going on.
