Have you disabled firewall???.....even then if it doesnt work....try changing the portgroup containing the VM to promiscuous mode. In Base ESX configuration using VC in the network section, select properties for Virtual switch: vswitch0, click edit button-click security tab-and there is a way to enable Promiscuous mode.

NO FIREWALL IN NT SERVER. promiscous mode is rejected. all other vm's are fine

check the vNic settings in your vm, ive had NT boxes set themselfs to 100mb when the pNic was GB nic... this "duplex" mismatch would for whatever reason cause the ping "reply" to fail ... look in the vmtools settings.

Another thought is DNS, have you tried to ping the IP of the box or have you been pinging just hte server name or FQDN? - just a thought.
