Hi All,
On Monday I installed ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 build 103909 on a Dell PowerEdge 2950. I've loaded several VMs and stressed the system over the last couple of days. I just noticed two warnings in the event log that occurred yesterday afternoon and just now:
VFAT: 2600: Possible FAT corruption!: offset not found: 0x400, length 8704, seekOffset 0x400. File length: 9508, status: Limit excee (2:19:08:01.420 cpu6:833625)
VFAT: 2600: Possible FAT corruption!: offset not found: 0x400, length 8704, seekOffset 0x400. File length: 9506, status: Limit excee (1:23:08:01.512 cpu1:584272)
Any idea what these mean or how to diagnose them further? I searched KB and communities.
I have two raid volumes one raid 0 for boot/swap and one raid 5 for VMs. The datastore on volume 0 is not being used, just the raid 5.
Thanks,
I get the same error on a "whitebox", ASUS Workstation-Board with local storage for the OS and iSCSI (OpenFiler) for VMs.
Currently no guests are configured on that machine, so there no remarkable I/O.
Tested Build is 123629.
UPDATE
I just upgrade that machine to the latest patch 163429.
Also there was currently no VFAT-Event, the reboot after the update deleted the newly installed guests on it.
I had to add them manuelly from the SR.
Anyone else tested with Build 163429?
Seems like it is not fixed with the latest release.
I get the error: Warning Event: VFAT: 2583: Possible FAT corruption!: offset not found: 0x400, length 10240, seekOffset 0x400, File length 1114 (varies), status: Limit e (17:14:12:33:157 cpu1:5705998)
It's the "whitebox" ASUS Workstation with attached NFS. Before it was a VFAT: 2600, now it's a VFA:2583
Current build is 176894
Any news on that issue?
I am also receiving the following warning:
Warning Event: VFAT: 2583: Possible FAT corruption!: offset not found: 0x400, length 10240, seekOffset 0x400, File length 1114 (varies), status: Limit excee

Any updates about this issue? Is this fixed yet?

Are you using the latest version of ESXi on supported hardware?
Thanks for your quick response.
No. I am still using ESXi 3.5. I will be Upgrading this in couple of weeks. But i am not sure if this has been resolved in ESXi 4.
I'm also seeing this issue on a ESX Server 3i, 3.5.0, 153875 on a Dell Power Edge 2850
I see the VFAT: 2583 randomly (10 times in the last month), but always at exactly 1 minute past the hour
At the top here it says there is a "Possible Answer" to this issue, but it doesn't seem to link you to that answer, I have scrolled through all 5 pages of post and I can't see any answer.
Is there one ?
Also when searching the discussions for VFAT: 2583 it doesn't even find this post !
Alec
Sorry Alec,
I could not find the answer for this yet. I still see this error sometimes, But i think its a minor one.
This weekend I am in the process of upgrading to ESXi 4. Lets see if that makes any difference.

Any one ever find a fix to this or find out what this error is? Warning Event: VFAT: 2583: Possible FAT corruption!: offset not found: 0x400
thank you
