Hello,
I am using the free ESXi for a few months now for home use. I like to evaluate VMware Infrastructure because we are planning to get vmware products soon for work.
If I installed the VMware Infrasture and when the expiration time comes, would it afffect my free ESXi server that I plan to continue using forever..or just the features of the infrasture not be usable?
Thanks,
Tnt
Yes that's correct - you need 2 or more hosts.
Just the features that you introduced with VIC.

ESXi is actually a component of Virtual Infrastructure. My assumption is that you are looking at a trial of VirtualCenter - once the trial ends, your VC won't work but the ESXi server has its own license so it won't be impacted.
If you are referring to VirtualCenter expiring - you would lose features such as cloning ability etc (assuming you only have 1 node). However if you license your free ESXi box via the free serial number VMware provide you when you download it....... you can still manage your ESXi box directly via the VI client and your VM's will continue to run and you'll still have the ability to manage them.
I was referring to VirtualCenter, have an interest in Vmotion & HA. I do have a free license with the ESXi.
You guys are quick to respond.
I am assuming I need to have at least 2 ESXi servers to test Vmotion & HA (high availabilit)? Time to build another box :).
Thanks again.
