Vmware ESXi installable is supported usb key?

Has anyone successfully connected a usb key to esxi installable?

I use usb key connected to esxi server. But there is no service console, I can't get the inormation whether the server can detect the usb device or not.

Hi Connie, are you wanting to copy to / from the USB device or to pass the key up to a guest? USB is not supported on ESX / ESXi, but you can present a USB device to a VM by using a USB over IP device like this one - http://www.digi.com/products/usb/anywhereusb.jsp.

This is not supported, but to see if ESXi can see the USB key -

1) At the console press ALT-F1.

2) type in "unsupported" minus the quotes and press enter. You'll then be prompted for the root password.

3) the console you'll now have access to is based in busybox so you won't be able to use all the commands you can with regular ESX. lspci exists so that'll allow you to see if ESXi can see the USB device.

You can also enable SSH for ESXi - again it is unsupported but nice for the lab.
