Vmware ESX novice question

Hello,

I've been playing with VMware ESX 3.0.2 for a while and this question came:

Is it possible a virtual machine to write directly to disk or partiton not making a huge file and using it ?

I mean when i create a virtual machine the ESX is creating files with the size of the disk of the machine, is it possible to "uncompress" this file and use it as a regular partiton ?

Thanks for the feedback.

Welcoem to the forums - what you are talking about is using a Raw Device Mapping (RDM) - this will direct the disk read/write to a raw lun on the SAN - check out the section on Raw Device Mappings in the Server Configuration Guide on http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/vi_pages/vi_pubs_302_301.html

Thats right you can do this. You need an RDM and this is how to do it....
