Virtual Machine Version 4?

Hey guys,

My company has just taken the leap into the world of production virtualization by purchasing ESXi 3.5. We have been using Server 2.0 Beta 2, and we've also used 1.0.5. I'm more than a little confused as to why my shiny new ESXi VI client is attempting to create VM version 4 guests, when my 'free' Server 2.0 was creating version 6 guests... I understand the difference to be the virtual hardware shown to the guest os, is this correct? What other differences exist between version 4 and version 6? More importantly, does ESXi 3.5 not support version 6? or am I just missing something? Thanks guys!

ESX's virtual hardware version has always lagged behind that of the workstation products and the server products. Its normal and has been true for years.

You aren't really giving anything up that you dont already know about (e.g. USB support).
