Vi permission issue

Hello,

I have esxi 3.5 servers with several virtual machine.

The users have access in a specific virtual machines using virtual client (VI), so, I created the users, roles and groups and everything works fine.

The problem is when I add a user to access an individual vm using the TAB " Permissions" that exists in each VM, it works fine, but when the ESXi host server is restarted all individual permissions on each vm are deleted automaticaly, so I need to reinsert the permissions in each virtual machine again. All esxi servers have the same behavior.

Do you know how these permissions keep active after a host reboot?

Thanks!

Only permission changes are dropped or also other changes (for example NTP or vSwitch)?

Maybe your ESXi is running on a RAMdisk, can you send the output of fdisk -l ?

Is there a reason you need to use the VI client to access the VM. It is far easier and faster to use Remote Desktop or VNC or ??? to access the VM

I wrote some directions specifically for a piece of software but they do work with any VNC client. Have a look at http://www.budgetvirtual.com/?page_id=3

Hello,

The users need to connect to VIC to do some tasks in the virtual machines like, snapshot, turn on the vms, etc.

Just this configuration is lost after the boot, other configuration are OK.

Thanks!

This is a known problem/bug. See also this thread:

As a workaround the thread suggests creating a resourcepool and assign the permissions to this resource pool.
