Hi,
I have a number of SUSE VMs running on ESXi 3.5 Update 2. I have their clocks synced with the ESXi server, however they are running one hour ahead of the ESXi time.
I am unable to sync with an NTP due to firewall restrictions but as far as I can see the time is correct on the ESXi server.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
possibly there is a difference in timezone settings between esxi and the vm's?
regards,
Raymond

Which version of Suse is running? And which linux kernel version?
Older linux kernel have massive problems with timing? Sometimes you can solve the problem by BIOS settings, maybe a BIOS update.

I think you might be right about the Timezones, on the SUSE VMs I get the following when I run the date command:
Fri Oct 17 12:26:55 IST 2008
Where as the ESXi server gives:
Fri Oct 17 11:28:43 UTC 2008
I'll have a play around in SUSE and see if I can set it to UTC.
Thanks for you help.
Is it possible to change the timezone on ESXi 3.5?
Thanks
Finn
ESXi run in UTC and you can't change that. You can set it to sync with a NTP server and the times displayed in the VI client are based on the timezone of the PC running the client.
It could be some "daylight saving" configuration on the VMs.
I had some problems with some VMs this week, as the brazillian daylight saving starts only at this weekend, but it was configured to start at the last weekend.
