VM-pNIC binding

With ESXi, using either the port ID or MAC hash type of load balancing, how can I tell which pNIC a given VM is using (I mean, aside from some sort of test such as creating traffic and watching the performance data in the VI Client)?

And, how can I control which pNIC a VM uses? Would port groups be a way to do this?

For question 1 i do not know an answer immediately.

For 2 you are correct: create a portgroup using only one pnic as active (override switch failover settings), and the others on the vswitch as standby (or not used if having the vm's on that one pnic is more imprtant than redundancy)
