VC can't trun off power on VM??

Hello Alls,

My ESX 3.5 when i'm try power off on some VM is said 'operation failed since another task in progress' and can't trun off it. How i can trun off VM? or Anybody Who know methos for view process that interupt on this VM?

Any updates! Please suggestion to me.

Have a look on the EVENTS tab of the VI client for the host. See what might be holding the process.

Do you have things like installing vmware tools still in progress.

no i haven't install vmware tool. Befor it can't stop i restore VM from snapshot and it complete.But why i can't trun off it??

What do you mean restored from a snapshot. If this was reverting to a VM snapshot how big was the snapshot? How long after the completed occurred did you try to turn it off. Any indications in the EVENT tab?

befor error i'm revert VM with vm's snapshot and looklike complete.So later i'm try power off VM but it's show an error.

now error have left 5hr after error i'm still can't take power off on this VM.

Any idea??

The KB article was for ESX but it is a point in the right direction. For ESXi you you can use the unsupported console (ALT +F1 type unsupported nad hit enter then type the root password) to get access to the command line.

vim-cmd vmsvc/getallvms 

returns the list of the guests and the vmid number

vim-cmd vmsvc/power.off [vmid of the guest]

Have you tried to stop & restart the VMware VirtualCenter Server service on the vCenter server?

Oh sorry... His original message says "ESX 3.5". In any case, the article I referenced also links to another article for ESXi (KB # 1014165)
