Upgrade ESX Server 3i, 3.5.0, 123629 (free version)

I have two ESX servers that used in a small business environment. Primary server is running ESX Server 3i, 3.5.0, 123629 (free version). Standby server is running ESX Server, 3.5.0, 123630 (VI3 Foundation Edition). I am using Veeam Backup and Replication to replicate from the primary server to standby on a nightly basis. I need to upgrade the license on the production server running the free version to match the standby server running Foudation Edition. Can I just apply a foundation license to the running production server using the VI client or is more complicated than that?

Thanks for the help. How about if I don't have a license server or Virtual Center? Just download the license file from the VMware portal and upload it to the server using the VI client?

that is correct.

Nope that's all that's needed, then add it to Virtual Centre.

Yes, you can. Just point ESXi to license server.
