Updating to 110271 on USB?

So I have been running ESXi (free) on a USB since it was released, the server is a Dell PowerEdge 860, storage is on iSCSI. Has been working very well.

Now how do I update to 110271 on USB? I followed the original instructions (somewhere here) to upload/copy ESXi on the USB and did it again with 110271, but my config is not there.

Is there a process that I can save my existing config to the new version?

Hello Mark, see the upgrade options here - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/Patch_3i_without_VC.html. The patch will preserve your exsiting settings, but it's a good idea to backup the ESXi config with the RCLI command vicfg_cfgbackup.pl.

Dave, thank you for the info...I guess I did not read the manual or look for the update client locally.

I end up re-imaging a second USB to 110271. Once started in default, I reconfigured my settings again (took less than 10 minutes), added vms back to inventory and now I am up and running.
