Update ESXi 3.5 Update

Is the only way to update ESXi 3.5 U2 via the RCLI? I'm not using Infrastructure 3, only the VI Client. I understand the ESXi doesn't contain the service console....I'm just curious if there is an easier way to do it, or if the VMW Update Manager works with VI3?

Thanks.

You can also

1) extract the patch and run remoteinstall.exe

2) Use Virtual Infrustructure Update (part of the VI client install - do a custom install of the VI client if you don't see it).

the preferred (and easiest) way to update ESXi 3.5 is using "VMware Infrastructure Update" which is one of the components installed with the VI Client.

you just run VIU and it will find the latest updates and patch your ESXi 3.5 server for you.

this is a distinct difference between ESX and ESXi. with ESX you either use the service console and esxupdate (for a single server scenario) or use VUM within virtualcenter. the VIU won't patch an ESX box.
