Two ESXi host with backup on each other with internal disks ?

Hi guys,

I'm going to mount a new architecture with 2 free esxi servers ver ESX3.5i or ESX4i: HOST1 and HOST2

My goal is to have a few active vm on each esxi. (max 4 vm / host = 8 Vms)

Vms are stored locally on each host. (datastore are on internal disks with raid controller)

The challenge is :

- This vm bust be backup each night during low activity but when they are active.

- The HOST1 backups will be store on HOST2 datastore

- The HOST2 backups will be store on HOST1 datastore

In case of failure of HOST1 we could restart failed Vms on HOST2 with just a few manual steps.

- browse datastore, inventory new vm, validate configuration and start .

Then could we backup each active Vm with a script like ghettovcb on the other host ? With NFS ?

Is it possible to start NFS on ESXi ?

Feel free to comment this and say what you think about this solution.

Thanks for help.

There is no nfsserver on ESXi. The console of ESXi is limited in performance (performance should go to the virtual machines).

You have to look for third party tools. Like http://www.stormagic.com/products_SvSAN.php

I'd go with a third machine acting as shared storage with nfs.
